Sitting Duck/The Lazarus Awakening

Sitting Duck/The Lazarus Awakening

These are my antiques.

an·tique/anˈtēk/

noun

  1. a collectible object such as a piece of furniture or work of art that has a high value because of its considerable age.

Some of my old work that I thought I had lost. Written when I had a different name: Christiane Lucas. Oh that girl. Many think they know her. But few really do. Or do they?

This page contains work from a previous blog I created which I let go dormant for too long. Xanga deleted my account and I was devastated when all attempts to retrieve my work had failed. While organizing the garage last year, my heart jumped when I found this packet of my Xanga writings; I had attended a Christian Writer’s conference back in the early 2000s and planned a meeting with Chris Ahrens, who was a regular writer for the Christian magazine that was published by the company I was working for at the time, Lamp Post Publications. Mr. Ahrens graciously met with me and chatted. I gave him a copy of this packet, and then never heard back. I’m so grateful to find this work now. I am not sure if it contains all the pieces I wrote in my Xanga blog, but at this point, I am just so elated that I found what I have. That time in my life when I was writing in my Xanga blog was thick with creativity, especially with my writing. I was writing at least a new song a week, plus laying down my ponderings on this website. Anyway, I reread a few of these today and was brought to tears, which was a reminder of what art can do. I will be adding to this page bit by bit as I read through my packet of writings and as I find the time to transfer them to this page.

My Xanga blog had two names. I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. One was “Sitting Duck,” because I found the cutest cartoon of a duck, sitting poolside on a lounger with a drink it its hand. For some reason, I keep thinking it was a different image than this famous Michael Bedard “Sitting Duck,” but it very well may have been this one. Haha… funny… I always thought those were flies. Duh, of course. They’re bullet holes.

The other name I felt strongly about was “The Lazarus Awakening.” One of the first things I was inspired to write about was the story of Lazarus in John 11. It was a retelling, if you will. There was a part 1, which will be the first antique I share on this tab. I don’t think I have composed a part deux, yet…

I hope you enjoy these pieces, written by a younger and somewhat different me.
